This weekend we'll be heading to the coast to do a square dance at the Netel Grange outside of Astoria. Calling will be Lisa McAvoy of Bellingham, WA. Rumor has it that she's riding her bicycle all the way from Bellingham, and calling the dance as part of a PNW bike tour. Speaking of bicycling, our buddy and fiddler of the Gold Diggers, Travis Cooper, assures us that he too plans on riding out from Portland to attend the dance. That's 110 miles! And then an evening of three hours of square dancing? Wow, that's bad ass. Or sore ass, or something like that.
Join us Saturday May 4 for a May Day Square Dance at the Netel Grange. Live music played by the Flat Rock Stringband with caller Lisa McAvoy. The dance begins at 7:00 p.m. and ends at 10:00. Admission is $3 to $5 at the door. All ages, singles, couples and families are welcome. No experience is necessary. Every dance comes with instructions. There will also be Maypole Weaving Dances called by Joseph Stevenson. The Netel Grange is located at 90525 Logan Road south of Astoria.
